April 20, 2005 - Hitler's Birthday - Week 83 - A Great Pope?
BY DR. BRUNO J. KEITH
To any good judge of character & of decent governance, the adjective "good" is usually relative & very seldom absolute. Yet, I would venture to place at least 2 Popes highly within the admired category. I wrote a short play about the life of Pope Silvester II who tried his utmost by using decent diplomacy & brilliant example of leadership to be a worthy regent of the hierarchy controlling the labors of the Catholic Church.
In such great man's image, only Pope John XXIII had the calling, the private conviction & manly courage to make his Church a superbly human, humane, honest & truly religious institution. Likewise, compared to all other Church Councils, his & John Paul I's Second Vatican Council attempted wholeheartedly to eliminate unwanted & harsh dogmas which tended to erase true religion & the embarrassing semblance of idolatry. Among popes, only John XXIII recognized in the "intercession" of thousands of "saints" dangerous intrusion in a God-and-worshippers' relationship. It was also old John XXIII who rejected the preaching of ancient doctrines of hatred which caused the many murderous crusades, the hosts of burnings at the stake & the entire labors of "holy" inquisition which also victimized many innocent souls together with the core of true religion.
Although many popes abhorred the maledictions & condemnations to perpetual persecution of Jews & Jewry & tried to protect, at least, the wealthy ones among them, John XXIII gave his all to befriend, defend & even sacrifice his chances for highest office by his insistence on New Testament's dogmatic hate preachments to be unprovable additions to Jesus Christ's all-lenient love commendations.
Early on, the lastest late Pope, John Paul II, had promised to honor the generous approach of the Second Vatican Council in the spirit of reform & human love. But he only continued its condemnation of aggressive wars & the overuse of executions of fellow-humans. In theory, he also seemed to relent on condemning Jews in general. Did he not enter their synagogues? His recognizing the old-new State of Israel did not include its "Red Magen David", the equivalent of every nation's Red Cross. When he sent a letter to their God by inserting it into a crevice of the West Wall, the ruins of Solomon's, Ezra's or Herodes's Temple in celebration of the Second Millennium of Jesus's promise to return to our earth, John Paul II seemed to act like a Promise Keeper.
If the Holy Father really meant to take the old & new Nazipropaganda out of the permanent threat for holocausts within the structure of Catholic P.R., he could have acted with more resolution when he was the Archbishop of Cracow and Primate of Poland. Under his (theoretical?) leadership, Polish priests of all ranks continued to convert Jewish-specific immolation at former Nazi Concentration Camps into Polish sufferings under German & Communistic persecution.
Karol Wojtyla did not order the removal of "his" cross where only Jews suffered cruel death. He didn't preach against the lynching of old Jews who tried to see one more time the house they had grown up in. Above all, John Paul II never condemned his idol, the strongest Pope of his time, nearing the papal heights. Every old German remembers the speeches, encouragement & newspaper articles of Nuntius Pacelli who abused his many years as papal ambassador in Berlin to advertize, to praise & to help getting financial supporters for Hitler's cause. Shame on Wojtyla for beatifying this Pacelli who became that Pope Pius XII who never protested against Nazi mass assassinations of millions of Jews although he protected several baptized, previous Jews.
John XXIII was a good person before he was elected Pope. He also was tutored by Sister Rose Thering from Whippany, N.J., the great teaching sister. Like some great men of the Renaissance & a few Jesuit Paters, she had access to ancient documentation of basic history of her Church. She, too, found that the 2 mentionings of Jesus Christ in the history written by Flavius Josephus while he became Emperor Titus's stooge & in the letter of Plinius were added centuries later in dubious ink & funky Latin, possibly as the basic forgeries for the verification of lies of hatred & instigation to pogroms of the members of the "father religion".
Professor Rose of Seton College wanted to make these falsifications to be known & the maledictions so well authored by one or several authors of all Gospels or by a small group of vicious cultists who tried to translate their hatred of Jews & Judaism into a pre-Opus Dei sermon of hate & persecution. She wondered loudly enough why the sources of her "faith" were hidden from view by researching scientists.
Sister Rose had realized that the author of the Sermon of the Mount knew no evil, that he was a great & good Jew, and there was not the slightest possibility that he would slander his own people & allow them to be condemned & murdered for two thousand years. The fact that John Paul II watched Mel Gibson's Ku-Klux-Klan murderous anti-Semitism in the film "The Passion of the Christ" & then said: "It was so", condemns the latest late Pope to all the Hells he believed in & allowed the Jews & Israel to suffer while he was alive.
Sister Teresa, a fine Roman Catholic from Turco-Albania, was a living saint to the poorest Hindus, Moslems & other hopeless people in India. Sister Rose Thering, Professor of Jewish-Christian Studies, became also a living saint who inspired the Second Vatican Council with her superior knowledge, the Truth & her humanity. She was appalled when John Paul II reverted to ancient dogmas which overstressed the medieval dictate of priestly celibacy when her Church was short of priests. Why then no women in place of some of those who had violated their sexual trust? Why restressing the almost abolished idolatry of thousands of "saints"? Why letting the meaningless mysteries of Compostela, Fatima, Czestochowa & Guadaloupe continue as the costly pilgrimages of the poorest to enrich the richest churches on earth, like Rome during death vigils of popes or jubilees?
A good pope cold have fulfilled the Bible's command which forgave all debts every seventh year & freed all slaves, too. Such true religion could have taught Catholics like Hitler, Himmler, the seminary priest Goebbels & millions of other vicious assassins the greatness of life, & even Stalin would have believed that the pope had more & more decent fighting divisions than hate mongers & political mass murderers.
