WEEKLY WARNING WORDS

February 2, 2005 - Week 72 - Elevated Warning Signals

BY DR. BRUNO J. KEITH

Until recently, Governor Ridge was supposed to preside in the cabinet-ranked Homeland Security Secretariat. That over-all top control over our lives & rambar against terrorists was quickly demoted to a next-to-nothing signaling post. Was Tom reduced to the laughing stock of political jesters?

Well, he did a lot of traveling & render glib lip service, always giving some subliminal indications of our potential targets of the evil enemy's task forces. He was awfully busy deciding what color codes he could chose for obvious or imagined threats from lurid, lurking, livid foes. His superb job had to include phone calls of cranks & humorists. Thus, we didn't need the input of our official night-clowns, Letterman & Leno, to denigrate what Bush had advertized as his genius - the all tied-up, uptight, secret spying clubs of the freest democracy. Was this ridiculous non-combination but antagonistic structure of KKK - like secrecy-dogmatics - quickly trumped by the greater powers of machinations of our Attorney General?

Ashcrofted danger signals soon kept upsetting sensitive citizens of all ages. Soon, all America would suffer all the risks of terrific surprises rather than be made artificially sleepless during nights, nervous waking during 24-hours of stress & the too often repeated alarms. Not seeing any depraved Al Qaeda attackers, many of US began to see in the attorney general the greater threat to their peace, their peace of mind & their physically abused state of health. Pious bluster continued making this extreme, rightwing agitator our citizens' perpetual enemy as long as Bush would hide behind the errors of judgment of this one & others of his underlings.

Still in office, this ornery mass molester snooped through the book-borrowers' records of public libraries to discover opinions of unreliable patriots, independent thinkers & those of "anarchic" frames of mind. Shouldn't one, or a few of them, have the makings of formidable enemies of Ashcroft &, thereby, of old-time religion bound to patriotism of the most aggressive variety?

Even as he lied he stooped lower, very low, to conquer our enemies, especially our thinking people of theories. He spied on angry computer internetting to find ever more suspects who might plan & dream up potential difficulties for Ashcroft, his religion & his 2 Lords. He even imagined that there were also great enemies hidden in some huge corporations in spite of his considering them the heart & pulse of his democracy.

But, but was there a democracy left to defend against his kind of theocrats, his arrogant spymasters who themselves are death-bringing foes of our vaunted liberties? Fully abusing a straddling Ridge color code, this Ashcroft frightened US all 24-hours each day & made thousands of arrests, especially among our most conscientious citizens & frightened sojourners anxious students & laboring tired-outs. His warming horrors confirmed his positions as the number one terrorist.

His greatest sin was, of course, that he kept crying wolf too many times to be believed when actual dangers by real enemies of the Bush Empire strike. Keeping our millions of conscientious consenters always in preparedness, tires our defensive power & even our over-used mechanical power structure. There can be little immediate reaction to any big action by the remorseless & also dogmatic foreign attack dogs. Ashcroft hinders our defensive super-structure to protect little red Ridinghood when the big, bad wolf threatens to swallow her. It is our show-off monstrosity which subverts our fire-power. It is also the meanness of Ash-crafty negativism which adds ever more former allies to the doubters of US sincerity, common decency & ability to try patient diplomacy before striking out left & right.

Common sense could have explained to our rough religionists that poor Arabs & other wretched Islam-bound slaves would rather use ammonium-nitrate fertilizers for improving crops. They really cannot afford to use such chemicals like our military-trainee-hoodlum, McVeigh, to do away with huge buildings & many workers within. They don't need to. For the Middle East still harbors many modern tools of destruction Reagan & the elder Bush donated for the willing executors of our anti-Soviet conspiracies. Unfortunately, the cheap home-fabricated gizmos serve those so-called terrorists well enough &, apparently, for the duration of our faultline oil policy.

Our new Bush has finally realized that his mastiff homeland security overruler, Ashcroft, was too devoted to the gods of rumors, false accusations & overstressed statism. Will a new attorney general be more lawabiding & feel bound to respect democracy & evenly-spread freedoms more than the now fired general of attorneys? Much may move to the main man, the White House chief of staff. Yet, we know that he too has the stuff of an autocrat. Always knowing what's in the cards, makes Mr. Card an effective wire puller. If he & Cheney learn to listen to a 1000 brave whistle blowers, they can direct the newly-appointed attorney general, the boss of US & the rest of the world into more civil channels of Western Kultur. We had better hamstring some of our true-believing megalomaniacs.
