Because US voters decided to perpetuate an already almost permanently divided citizenship, our Führer has the unenviable task to make many "final decisions" which must be controversial in the beginning & reversible soon after initiation. No stubborn black-and-white seer, "thinker" & doer can succeed forever in any of his idolized attitudes, doctrines & pious aspirations.
A good & profound look at prevailing conditions in Afghanistan & Iraq must even terrify terrorists as much as extremely peaceful peace-lovers. Under these circumstances, we all have to confess that we played with fire & got our fingers burned off. It is too late for Bushits to pray for forgiveness & his Nation to hope for forgetfulness. No use!
It is the nature of Nature to demand its price - hundreds of billions in dollars, Euros or Yens wasted, hundred thousand & more lives sacrificed & 2 supposed sovereign nations utterly destroyed, humiliated and more anti-democratic & violent than before we ruined them with the latest weapons of mass destruction.
Nation-building, once much maligned by Republicans as Bill Clinton tried it, has been tried the absurdest way. How can any one teach democracy with his flaming sword of patriotic chauvinism? Continuation of this fanatical-faith caused wholesale murder, bankrupts US morally, religiously & politically besides charging our remotest offspring with unpayable debts, way beyond our trillions of still-owned national assets; we are loading our guilt complex on innocent children & grand-children & shaming humanity into its lowest primate condition. When the beast of prey hopes for redemption through posing as one of prayer, the angels of revenge take devilish delight in making all the world of human habitation suffer from here to eternity.
It was a nasty joke to call what happened in Afghanistan free elections. Worse yet, & most dishonest, was the declaration of freedom in Iraq while our 138,000 good swordsmen & a few thousand forced allies in battle-readiness played police agents. Our jest has been trumped. Our 2 imperialisms, opium & oil, are plainly defeated. Honesty & bravery must have the courage to admit 2 costly failures. Isn't it high time to retreat into ourselves? There is no other way out.
Our President, in his inaugural address, must announce our withdrawal from both countries within 3 months. He must beg the United Nations to make the world's deal with terrorists, with bleeding nations & all existing governments. We can only preserve our right to search & bomb out hiding places of extreme terrorists & apologize for each innocent life lost in the process & for multiple murders by friendly fire to be forgiven & forgotten? We & the English caused many of such murders. But can we make up for all other collateral damage? Fighting back at terroristic critters, si! Invading countries, nations & human domiciles, non! Never ever again! If that is true religion, even a pious dogmatist must make the most of it.
Eventually, all Bin Ladens run out of caves & ratholes. Have patience, young men & women! Only if we are invaded by "national" armies, are we entitled to meet them at our borders & extend our self-defence beyond our frontiers when we are certain to hit back at our aggressive foes. Hot pursuit transcends border inanities. Beyond these necessities, Nature must take care of itself.
What We Should Have Done In Iraq & What Not.
Instead of getting lock, stock & barrel into Saddam Hussein's oil tyranny, Bush could have helped to protect an autonomous Kurdistan within Iraq's borders. Instead of expensive & dangerous over flights, we could have imported a few thousand great military trainers, but only if all Kurdish party leaders agreed to such minor occupation. Our expert oil roughnecks & related specialists could have arranged for the Kurdish take-over of the oil-welled northern area of Iraq from Kirkuk to the Turkish border.
Previously unknown prosperity, or hope for it, might have united most Kurd parties for their own good. With the world's charity organizations & the prestige of the U.N., we could have promoted a model of semi-statehood for even a tyrant to imitate. Had the majority of the majority-Shia South then requested similar or equal assistance, the Baghdad dictator would have been morally & semi-physically forced to come to a better deal for his minority Sunni. Although democracy is a most unlikely form of government in such a religiously, ethnically & political poison-mixture, a working system could have developed over time. The quagmire of our making is not easily trodden with heavy boots.
Bush has learned nothing from our Cold War stupidities when we helped every tinhead dictator to create an efficient army as soon as a fascist declared himself an anti-Communist. The better part of the world, even as it loves our constitutional freedom, still hates us for reconstructing fascism after the fall of Hitler & Mussolini & the death of Franco & Salazar.
Our people are not trusted with the gruesome details of Bush drill-sergents' endeavors to recreate an Iraqi army. That very idea is a dangerous & costly blunder. All needed is only a strong, well-trained & patient police force, separately people-installed. In Kurdistan they must be Kurds who are trained to protect their minorities of Turkmen, Sunni, Shiites & other Arabs. Within Shia country, they have to be Shia policemen, if possible, some also with a liberal streak or understanding of minorities.
Obviously, the Sunni triangle needs Sunni police with strong details of foreign-schooled & formerly exiled Sunni resisters who can keep power-hungry Saddam Hussein wolves, Baathists, from Baghdad's gates. Since the former capital houses also a million poor non-Sunni, those policemen need special training & rewards for tolerance for any other type of humanity. But, if Bush wants to teach tolerance for the belief systems & customs of tribal tribulators, he needs lots of great teachers to first teach an unteachable Bushman.
What Bush should never have tried, is the creation of a new army. That idiocy went far enough astray to pick a captive tyrant's tyrannical general as head of the Fallujah attackers. Thinking Americans should not have been surprised when that man generally betrayed his men to the fanatics "he" claimed to attack.
Mr. President, don't train an army of volunteers. Those crowding under new colors are all trained by the evil one to massacre or subjugate their confessed opponents. You will have a large, savage new military fascism which tends to become ever more patriotic & more fanatically militaristic to equal in all respect the Saddam Hussein hoodlums of his Republican Guards. Even if such secular armed force is preferable to Iran's pious maroders & religious police, any new army must needs become a new - model Saddam Hussein murder force intending to keep down Kurds, Turkmen &, especially, the Shia majority of the south. Reforming an army in a former absolute tyranny is impossible in our times. Only in the Cold War strange military culture was that a possibility in the long term; its special conditions were based on heart-felt hopes & the Western feeling of guilt. Such sentiments died during these evil culture wars for good & eternity.
