September 29, 2004 - Week 54 - Heroes of 9-11-01?

Coming from Canada on a delayed Greyhound Bus, American custom agents searched all passengers on both sides of the common border. After more bus misadventures, I spent 5 days on a smoke-polluting "Delta Queen" Ohio cruise from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh as a gift to myself on my 90th birthday. From there to New York, I was miserably treated with all my fellow travelers. Nobody could tell us when finally a bus from Philadelphia would make it to New York.
Against all expectations, most of us did reach the apple of all world centers just before 2:00 a.m., on September 11, 2001. Rolling my carry-on southward for too many city blocks with the help of fearless black girls, all from Jamaica, a local dog owner finally got me to Seafarer's Inn, just past Union Square. As a "Viking of the Pacific", I was installed in the admiral's room at $100 a night.
Although the nightclerk had heard me say "for 2 nights", his fingers tapped a 3. He couldn't change that without the help of the chief clerk. This error was not what kept me awake. Did a prophetic foreboding enter the mind of a realist?
Up before 6:00, I limped southwards towards City Hall. Not open for business before 8:00 or later. Staring around, my eye fell on another youngster. She was also from Jamaica & resided in Jamaica not far from my airport. Strangely, she took me for her boyfriend's father who employed her as a computer operator at the World Trade Center: "You must see my nice office. The nice man also pays my tuition at Columbia University. I earn enough to support my poor parents back in the isle."
I forgot about the interesting mayor as we slowly trotted along the short distance. Before we entered the huge building complex, I told her that I had only seen it from airplanes during the days & its thousands of lights at nights. What a fantastic silhouette against the sky on this sunny morning! But, but what about the little fly? Is one of our intrepid pilots showing off? Why doesn't he show off his stuff by flying under the Verrazano Bridge or against an Italian ski lift? For heavens sakes! It's a suicidal run. We must run away, so the police & firemen can do their jobs. "Run, run, run!" I shouted loud enough for thousands of entrants to be reversed! Nobody helped me to keep up with an army of cowards or living souls who chose to stay alive.
By the time I had limped back to Union Square, passers-by with their tiny radio sets kept us somewhat informed. Smoke & clouding added information. I saw no hero on that cruel day. Only when I was back at the admiral's headquarter, my T.V. set stressed the brave new world. A daring reporter said that it was time for policeman-Mayor Giuliani to tear himself from the bosom of Ms. Nathan, go back to his wife for a quick breakfast & help to control the trafficking around the WTC or his office in City Hall.
To me it seemed awfully late when the great mayor appeared on my screen for continuous endless photo opportunities with his fire chief & police commissioner. Why did that bastard keep the 2 most important leaders of the moment from doing the utmost of their duty & duties? And that ambitious egotist made the world aware of his leadership qualities every hour of the next few weeks. Thus he made himself the hero who could be the next Governor or President if Hillary permitted.
Of course, the hundreds of courageous police, firemen & civilians had no time to act up or act out. They were too busy trying to save lives regardless of the risks of self-victimization. There were no heroes on the planes - only pious criminals, religious prayer-folks & other cowardly passengers when individual courage could have changed history.
What about our Commander-in-chief? His vice? The top generals, admirals & admirable politicians? None was worth his salary. Why had the President left the exposed White House for a secret destination just before our evil idiots at Logan Airport etc. had violated a dozen security requirements to give the hellhounds of Arabism their chance to highjack big passenger planes & mutate them to missiles.
Why had no order been given by our Pentagonians to fighter planes to scramble & do the impossible? What kept our chiefest commander reading from a baby book in a remote school in Florida? Why was his smarter vice president hidden for too many hours in the safest bunker way down below the White-washing House? Why had Condo-Lee-Zza Rice not taken seriously the several warnings by Clinton's crewmen, including Richard Clarke, the several pilot schools & FBI warnings of highjacked planes as our possible nemesis? The danger-woman called dutiful whistle blowers just historical. It was malfeasance in office which kept that clever infighter from putting two & two together.
To her it mattered only that her Bushman was in no danger on Air Force I over Florida, Louisiana & Nebraska. She & her boss denied the right of Congress to know the truth for a long year. That gave her, Rowe, Card & Hughes enough time to erase, or blacken out, our Fuhrers' treasonous actions, non-actions & obvious negligence in office. Hidden in the big book of uncritical is a bit of wristslapping which is also diverted to Clinton who had been bound hand & foot by the Starr, Gingrich & others of our Evil Empire to do not more than bomb Osama bin Laden's training camp in Afghanistan.
Our foremost liars, slanderers, security preventors & outright traitors will continue to hunt down the poorest civilians abroad as they do at home. Ridge, supposed to coordinate Homeland Security Administration, has not enough money, not the complete planning initiative & no enforcement powers. The F.B.I. which failed our country can never do anything right. But it is supposed to handle the Tom Ridge enforcement. That leaves to DHS not much more than screaming out color code red to frighten the hell out of U.S.A. for keeps, as long as the treacherous, loudmouthed vernaglers of the incumbents control the White House. What we need is a surplus thousand of brilliant trial lawyers like vice-presidential candidate John Edwards. All the present leaders of Republican Party goers deserve indictment for terrorism against the American people. Even if their phony majority prevents impeachment.
The worst of the hypocritical crooks are their would-be covers McCain, Potaki, Guiliani & Schwarzenegger. They said no word against their extremist right-winged (un) Christian party platform while pretending to be liberal in social issues. They are as treacherous as the rest of the false & fierce birds of prey & prayer.
