WEEKLY WARNING WORDS
January 28, 2004 - Week 19 - Foreign Affairs (Continuation)
BY DR. BRUNO J. KEITH
When we felt that we had to rebuild the nations of Europe after World War II, we sponsored the western economic alliance which we shaped into the NATO defense organization as an aggressive attack vigilante against the hated Soviet Union. To our shame, we now sponsor the continuation of this strangulation and threat to the weakened and friendly Russia which allowed the complete independence of former satellites with the exception of the murderous Muslim entity of Chechnya.
Putin must hate our condemnation of his defensive war against terroristic rebels. He can't understand why we still build military alliances around him, who is a reformed secret policeman like George I of our CIA. Our interference runs against a cooperating Russia is meaningless, abusive and counter-productive. It shapes conservative Russians into super-patriotic fascists who tend to cooperate with Arab terrorists rather than remain our lowly-ranked would-be allies. We must become honest friends of liberalizing Russia and its oil and timber riches, at least until a more reasonable U.S. government invests half the cost of our futile wars in solar, wind and hydro power to make us completely independent of foreign oil speculators.
It is ridiculous to continue Cold War policies and divert our resources and those of struggling Slavic nations from reforming their new governments. Keeping old hatred, even distrust, alive, is reactionary nonsense. Why can the stalking Bushman not try to be more positive, optimistic and helpful in deeds of normal actions instead of his wordy power plays and power grabs? Why must we always throw the burning cinder into combustible Bushlands? It does not behoove the National Guard pilot who avoided battle in Vietnam to think of aggression before considering peaceful solutions to world problems.
No more rewarming the Cold War! Russia and US are natural allies against expanding Islam. Let us chuck out NATO for good, regardless of what Western Europe will do with it or its modernized economic equivalence. Whatever the cost, we must flatter, invite and, if necessary, bribe Putin without ever considering his darker side or recalling his G.P.U. past. Chechnya is his business, not ours.
Similarly our relationship with the nation of the future superpower China. Nixon recognized China's value for US even while he saw a Communist in every American Liberal before McCarthy did. Truman kept MacArthur from ruining us by invading China from Korea. Like Russia, China is rich in national resources which will make it eventually the foremost world power. We must treat both as allies, friends and refrain from criticizing their internal shortcomings and lack of democracy. Let Taiwan take care of itself. Like South Korea, Taiwan can buy friendliness. Those two can use their rich economies to strengthen their own "democracies" for the wealthy and nobody else. Their money can bribe North Korea into behaving like pious Westerners. But only China can and will neutralize any threat by the North Korean "owners" of a few super bombs.
We were wrong when we made the military tyrants of Pakistan our ally. It was never our business to keep that aggressive Muslim might armed, well-trained and well-financed against India. Like Israel, India, too, tried hard to govern democratically in spite of militant, orthodox minorities, most hateful neighbor-hoods, theocratic-fascistic terrorists and our ill-taken misgivings. In fact, fundamentalist Muslims are better off in free India than in fundamentalist Pakistan, even while they keep challenging Hindu fanaticism to the utmost. Stop supporting the murderous tyrant, General Sharraf, or succeeding general-assassins who keep murdering more modern, more liberal and better educated competitors and women politicians. Such generals are dangerous to our interests, especially if they keep alive the most rabid Kashmir and Afghanistan militant Muslims. We must recognize that the Pakistanis remain full of hatred of Western Civilization. They represent with Palestinians and Saudi-Arabs a savage jihad spirit. Only a power quartet of India, China, Russia and US can enforce peace and security in the name of the United Nations.
P.S. (Commentary to the State of the Union Address:
On January 20, our President talked for almost an hour, addressing by and large only the upper class plus the 2 ½ million men and women in uniform. In approx. ¼ of that time the 2 Democratic leaders spoke for the majority of the less privileged who feel insecure in their present condition and are anxious about their future. Can our alienated stepchildren trust any boast about Bush victories or his promises of some new social improvements? Will such willful proconsul of the Lord make good in assisting students to attend college level institutions, help the employment market along, aid the oldest and sickest to pay for costly medical treatment and medicine? To delay until 2006 life and death decision is devilish. To keep divisive measures and enslave women by the force of a man's law to bear his child is barbaric. Our own perpetrator of mass destruction as the indecent world arbitrator lost the moral right to use the torch of liberty and democracy as a deceptive weapon.)
